Significant Investor Visa - FAQ

The Minister for Immigration and Citizenship first announced the introduction of the new Significant Investor visa as part of the Business Innovation and Investment program in May 2012 and released further details on 29 August 2012

Significant Investor Visa

The Australian Government has announced a new visa pathway for migrant investors coming to Australia. This visa is scheduled to commence on 24 November 2012 as a new stream within the Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) (Subclass 188) visa and the Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) (Subclass 888) visa.

Post-Study Work Arrangements

New post-study work visa arrangements are proposed for introduction in early 2013. Under Australia’s legislative system, regulations must be approved by the Governor-General. The information provided below explains how the Department of Immigration and Citizenship intends the post-study work arrangements to operate. This should be read as a proposed set of arrangements for the Governor-General’s consideration in due course. More detailed advice about eligibility requirements will be made available as legislation to support the visa is put in place.

First we off-shored work, now graduates

A new NSW-backed program to send Australian university graduates to India has drawn fire from outspoken members of the state's technology sector. IT professionals have long protested that the growing practice of off-shoring high-tech projects to developing countries harms local career chances. Now the NSW government has given its backing to a program to send young workers to the sub-continent to gain experience and improve their employability.

Western Australia offers sponsorship on state and regional

To apply for State Sponsorship from Western Australia you will need the following: 1 to have submitted an Expression of Interest in SkillSelect with Department of Immigration and Citizenship and acquired an EOI number; 2 an occupation on the Western Australian skilled migration occupation list (WASMOL); 3 to meet the State Sponsorship criteria for Western Australia; 4 to submit an application online with Skilled Migration Western Australia and pay a non refundable $200 application fee; and 5 if required, an offer of employment emailed to migration@dtwd.wa.gov.au after submitting an online application

Significant Investor visa

On 29 August 2012, the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, the Hon Chris Bowen MP announced details about the Significant Investor visa which will be included as part of the Business Innovation and Investment program. These changes will be implemented in 24 Nov 2012
